Your prayerful support of the priests and seminarians the Foundation sponsors nourishes and sustains them through their studies and pastoral work during their years in Rome. Join us in praying for those called to the vocation of the priesthood. Please consider making one of these prayers part of your prayer life. They were penned by three of our foundation’s most beloved saints, and we ask them regularly for their intercession on behalf of the men we support.
“There is an urgent need, especially nowadays, for a more widespread and deeply felt conviction that all the members
of the Church, without exception, have the grace and
responsibility to look after vocations.”
- St. John Paul II
God, please give to your Church today
many more priests after your own heart.
May they be worthy representatives of Christ the Good Shepherd.
May they wholeheartedly devote themselves to prayer and penance;
be examples of humility and poverty;
shining models of holiness;
tireless and powerful preachers of the Word of God;
zealous dispensers of your grace in the sacraments.
May their loving devotion to your Son Jesus in the Eucharist
and to Mary his Mother
be the twin fountains of fruitfulness for their ministry.
Amen.
- St. John Vianney, Patron Saint of Priests
Mary, Woman of the Eucharist, Mother and Model of Every Priest And, you, Mary, "Woman of the Eucharist," Mother and model of every priest, be close to these sons of yours today and throughout the years of their pastoral ministry. Like the Apostle John, they too welcome you "into their home." Help them to conform their lives to the divine Teacher who has chosen them as His ministers. May their "present," just spoken by each one with youthful enthusiasm, be expressed every day in generous adherence to the task of the ministry and blossom in the joy the "magnificat" for the "great things" that God's mercy will, to work through their hands. Amen.
- St. John Paul II
Oh Holy Father, may the torrents of love flowing from the sacred wounds of your divine Son bring forth priests like unto the beloved disciple John who stood at the foot of the cross; priests, who as a pledge of your own most tender love will lovingly give your divine Son to the souls of men.
May your priests be faithful guardians of your Church, as John was of Mary, whom he received into his house. Taught by this loving Mother who suffered so much on Calvary, may they display a mother's care and thoughtfulness towards your children.
May they teach souls to enter into close union with you through Mary who, as the Gate of Heaven, is specially the guardian of the treasures of your divine Heart.
Give us priests who are on fire, and who are true children of Mary, priests who will give Jesus to souls with the same tenderness and care with which Mary carried the Little Child of Bethlehem. Mother of sorrows and of love, out of compassion for your beloved Son, open in our hearts deep wells of love, so that we may console Him and give Him a generation of priests formed in your school and having all the tender thoughtfulness of your own spotless love. Amen.
- St. Thérèse of Lisieux
Ineffable Creator, who, from the treasures of Your wisdom, are proclaimed the true font of light and wisdom, and the primal origin raised high beyond all things. Pour forth a ray of Your brightness into the darkened places of our minds. Disperse from our souls the twofold darkness into which we were born: sin and ignorance.
You make eloquent the tongues of infants. Refine our speech and pour forth upon our lips the goodness of Your blessing. Grant us keenness of mind, capacity to remember, skill in learning, subtlety to interpret, and eloquence in speech. May You guide the beginning of our work, direct its progress, and bring it to completion.
You Who are true God and true Man, who live and reign, world without end. Amen.
- St. Thomas Aquinas
