Mission & Vision

Our Foundation’s mission is to provide Catholic priests and seminarians from around the world with a vigorous academic, human, and spiritual formation.

The students our donors support complete their bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degrees at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome and are fully immersed in sacramental daily life in their residences and on campus.

Santa Croce alumni go on to transform parishes, schools, dioceses, and the global Church. But many dioceses are financially unable to offer their future leaders this powerful formation at Santa Croce. Our donors make this possible.

The Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, affectionately known as Santa Croce, began as a dream in the heart of Saint Josemaría Escrivá, the founder of Opus Dei. He dreamed of a place in Rome where priests, religious, and lay people could be formed not only in the rich tradition of the Catholic faith, but also in the art of bringing that faith into the lives of everyday people.

That dream took shape under the leadership of Blessed Álvaro del Portillo, and with the encouragement of Saint John Paul II, opened its doors in 1984. Fourteen years later, Santa Croce was granted the status of a Pontifical University—a recognition of both its academic excellence and its unique mission: to prepare leaders who can speak to the minds and hearts of today’s world.

Here, students don’t learn theology, philosophy, canon law, and church communications for the sake of study alone. They are formed to share the Gospel in ways that touch the lived realities of parishioners, students, families, and communities. They leave Rome ready to serve: in parishes and dioceses, in universities and schools, in the streets and marketplaces of the world.

About Our Foundation

Our Foundation exists for one reason: to make the life-changing formation offered at Santa Croce in Rome possible for those priests, religious, and lay leaders whose dioceses couldn’t otherwise afford it.

The University is a center of academic excellence and pastoral formation, but most of its students—priests, seminarians, and religious from around the world—come from places where resources are scarce. Without help, they could never receive the education that would prepare them to lead, teach, and guide their communities with wisdom and pastoral care.

That’s where the Foundation comes in. Based in the United States, we connect the generosity of Catholic donors with the needs of these future Church leaders. Scholarships make it possible for bishops to send their most promising seminarians to Rome. Faculty support ensures students learn from world-class professors. Funding for classrooms, libraries, and technology keeps the University equipped to meet the demands of modern formation.

When you give to the Foundation, you’re not just funding a degree program. You’re investing in the future of parishes, dioceses, schools, and missions across the globe. You’re equipping pastors who will preach the Gospel with clarity and compassion, theologians who will speak truth into the cultural conversation, and shepherds who will care for the People of God in every corner of the world.

Our alumni may never have the means to “give back” financially, but they repay your generosity every single day: in the confessional, at the altar, in the classroom, and in the streets, bringing Christ to those who need Him most.
